A group of UBC economics students is headed to Ottawa in February 2019 to compete in the finals of the Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge, a case competition for undergraduate students across the country.

This marks the first time a UBC team have become finalists. The team is comprised of BA student Jenny Duan and BIE students Elaina Liang, Joseph Teh, Alex Tivoli, and Tudor Schlanger. They are coached by Prof. Jonathan Graves and Prof. Viktoria Hnatkovska.

The UBC students will compete against four other teams as they act as advisors to the Bank’s Governing Council, presenting analysis and recommendations on the Bank’s key interest rate, to be judged by a panel of experts. The winning team receives national recognition from Governor Stephen Poloz, meetings with Bank of Canada officials, and a trophy.
