Vancouver School of Economics Professor Erwin Diewert is the inaugural recipient of the Gudin Award, a global prize awarded by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), a Brazilian school and think tank.
“I am very pleased that an international group of statisticians has initiated an award for lifetime contributions to the field of economic measurement,” said Diewert, who accepted the award at a special ceremony in Rio de Janeiro last month. “I have been working in this area for 45 years and it is very gratifying to be recognized for my research.”
Diewert is a renowned scholar known for his work in price measurement, productivity and index number theory, among other areas. FGV called him a “world leader” in developing and improving calculations for price indices.
The award is named after Brazilian economist Eugênio Gudin, who developed the country’s first Consumer Price Index (CPI). For more about the award, click here.
