The Vancouver School of Economics (VSE) welcomes Michal Szkup as its latest addition to the faculty as an Assistant Professor.
Michal’s research interests are in international macroeconomics, financial economics, and information economics – with a particular focus on the role of coordination failures and financial frictions. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2014 from New York University.
We ask Michal some questions regarding his stay so far at the VSE:
What attracted you to Vancouver and the VSE?
“I was mostly attracted by the international reputation of VSE. VSE is widely recognized as being an excellent research school with exceptional faculty. Of course the fact that Vancouver is a beautiful city, located by the ocean and near mountains, also played a role.”
How has it been for you so far being at the VSE since you have arrived?
“So far it has been great. While the transition from being a Ph.D. student to being a faculty member was challenging at times, I really enjoy my new responsibilities that come with the job. Moreover, my colleagues and the administrative staff were extremely helpful making the adjustment much easier that it would have been otherwise. The School itself proved to be everything that I hope for in terms of friendliness and quality of colleagues and the freedom for research/teaching. I am really happy to be part of it.”
