Statement from VSE Director on loss of Agustín Beltrán

June 30, 2022 | Tagged: Agustín Beltrán, Patrick Francois

On Wednesday morning, first-year PhD student Agustín Beltrán was tragically killed in a cycling accident in downtown Vancouver.

We are shocked and devastated over Agustín’s death. This is a tremendous loss for the UBC community and our tight-knit PhD program. We extend our deepest sympathies to Agustín’s family, friends, and peers. We share in their grief today, and in the days to come.

The university has reached out to the program’s students to provide support. Counselling services are available for any community members impacted.

As the police investigate the fatal crash, we encourage anyone with information to contact VPD’s collision investigation unit at 604-717-3012.
