VSE Staff Member Wins Staff Excellence Award

cropped-UBC_ECON_TINA_002_cropV2.jpgCongratulations to Tina Marandola, VSE’s BA programs assistant on being awarded the Dean of Arts Award for Staff Excellence!

The award is given annually to a Faculty of Arts staff member in acknowledgement of outstanding contribution to their unit and the faculty in general.

For 28 years, Tina has supported undergraduate students and faculty in the economics office. She is the longest-serving staff member in the school, and is not just an exceptionally competent staff member but also a vital source of accumulated wisdom.

Her referees described how the entire undergraduate program simply would not function without her. They praised her dedication to reviewing over 500 undergraduate applicants each year and supporting the 600 current undergraduates. Not to mention her inspirational work ethic, photographic memory and vast culinary knowledge (which includes a 100-year-old family pasta recipe!). Most of all, they wanted to express their deep gratitude for all that she does.

“Tina is the mainstay of the VSE’s BA programs: she takes care of admissions, required-course registration, prerequisite checks, students queries and problems, awards and a host of other stuff,” notes Professor Hugh Neary,  VSE’s Associate Director and BA Program Coordinator. “She constantly monitors decision-making to ensure that students are treated equally and fairly in all aspects of the program. Everything she does is done cheerfully and professionally. Program administration would be very different without her hard-work, experience and commitment to doing a great job.”
