Celebrating VSE Student & Faculty 2025 Awardees



As the academic year comes to a close, the Vancouver School of Economics congratulates the Class of 2025 on their graduation, as well as recipients of numerous awards on their incredible service, performance, and innovation.


Student Awardees

Isabel Bengson – W. Erwin Diewert Prize, Outstanding paper in Applied Economics

The W. Erwin Diewert prize is offered to an undergraduate student who has written an outstanding paper in Applied Economics and is made on the recommendation of the Department of Economics.

Pierre Lambelet – Jamieson-Rosenbluth Prize & CEA Best Paper Award

The Jamieson-Rosenbluth prize recognizes one student’s outstanding essay reporting on an empirical investigation in the field of Industrial Relations or in another branch of economics. Essays are nominated by instructors in the Department of Economics. Pierre’s paper was called, “Farewell to Low Fares: The Price Effects of Alaska Airlines’ 2016 Acquisition of Virgin America” and can be seen on Pierre’s Honours Student profile.

Wuyang Ren – Joseph A. Crumb Prize

The Joseph A. Crumb prize is awarded to the student submitting the best graduating essay in the Honours Program in Economics. Wuyang’s winning paper was called, “Cat’s in the Cradle: Paternity Leave Policy and Mothers Labour Market Outcomes” and can be seen on Wuyang’s Honours Student profile.


Faculty Awardees

Réka Juhász – CWEC/CFEC Early Career Research Award

From CEA: “Congratulations to the CWEC/CFEC Early Career Research Award Winner, Reka Juhasz!

Reka Juhasz is an Assistant Professor at Vancouver School of Economics and her publishing record is outstanding including two publications in `top 5’ economics journals (AER, JPE). Despite being early in her career, she has had a big impact within the profession and outside of the profession. Her work has been of vital relevance for economic policy both for Canada and the outside world. The interest in Reka’s work manifests itself in a high citation count, numerous media engagements, and many invited talks.”

Angela Redish and Michael B. Devereux – 2025 Fellows of the Canadian Economics Association

Professor Emerita Angela Redish and Professor Michael Devereux have been selected as 2025 Fellows of the Canadian Economics Association, an award “conferred to recognize the achievements and contribution to the discipline of the most prominent economists who have spent a significant portion of their career in Canada” (CEA).

Professor Redish has worked at the University of British Columbia since earning her Phd in 1982 from the University of Western Ontario with the exception of serving as Special Advisor at the Bank of Canada in 2000-2001.

Professor Devereux has worked at the University of British Columbia since 1992, and earned his PhD from Queen’s University.

They join numerous other faculty and alumni of the Vancouver School of Economics, including:
