Logan is in the final year of his BA in Economics (Honours) at the Vancouver School of Economics at UBC. An entrepreneur with a passion for using the principles of economics to solve social problems, Logan plans to continue his studies in economics at Oxford.

“It’s an immense privilege to represent BC, UBC, and Canada in Oxford. The Rhodes community is truly unparalleled and I’m honoured to have the chance to contribute to it,” says Logan. “I still haven’t processed it all, honestly, but I hear the best strategy is to take everything in. I can’t wait to immerse myself in the tough global issues of today and learn and explore as much as I possibly can.”

The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. Established in the will of Cecil Rhodes, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world, which aims to nurture public-spirited leaders for the world’s future.

“Congratulations to Logan for being awarded a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship,” says Thomas Lemieux, VSE Director. “This is a well deserved honour for an outstanding student. The VSE is very proud of you!”

Logan has a lifelong history of engagement in social causes, including the Children’s Arthritis Foundation, which he founded with the goal of helping other children living with juvenile arthritis. During his studies at UBC Logan participated in the international learning program and spent a term at the National University of Singapore, amongst numerous other academic and social activities. “Being a part of the honours program at the VSE has been paramount to my academic development,” Logan explains. “Being in a small class surrounded by seriously talented people, with access to incredible educators, and challenging research opportunities have all brought me to where I am.”

Logan joins an elite list of UBC economics graduates whom have been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Prior winners are Matthew Chan (Major Economics ’06) and Dominic Barton (Honours Economics ’84).
