We’re proud to congratulate Dr. Raffaele Saggio on his recent receipt of the 2025 Aigner Award from the Journal of Econometrics, along with coauthors Sabrina Di Addario (Bank of Italy), Patrick Kline (Berkeley) and Mikkel Sølvsten (Aarhus University). This award is given each year for the best empirical paper published in the Journal.
The paper, “It ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you’re at: Hiring origins, firm heterogeneity, and wages,” uses Italian social security records to demonstrate that previous employers play little role in determining current wages once the identity of the current employer is considered.
According to Dr. Saggio, this work, “sheds light on firm wage-setting practices—specifically, to what extent employers engage in bargaining with workers when determining wages”. For more information on this research, read the paper here.
