VSE team reaches finals of the Bank of Canada’s 2019 Governor’s Challenge

November 28, 2019 | Tagged: Bank of Canada, Bank of Canada Governor's Challenge

The VSE team (L-R: Burhan Qadri, Stephanie Brook, Lily Suh, Akash Uppal, and Sparsh Nagar).

A group of UBC economics students are heading to Ottawa in February 2020 to participate in the final round of the Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge, a case competition for undergraduate students nationwide.

This is the second year in a row that a UBC team has made the finals. The team includes BA students Stephanie Brook and Burhan Qadri, along with BIE students Akash Uppal, Sparsh Nagar, and Lily Suh.

The group will compete against four other teams as they act as advisors to the Bank’s Governing Council, presenting analysis and recommendations on the Bank’s key interest rate, to be judged by a panel of experts. The winning team receives national recognition from the Governor Stephen Poloz, meetings with bank officials, and a trophy.
