Combined Majors

Develop a broader understanding of the world by combining your economics degree with philosophy, political science, mathematics, or statistics.

Program Requirements

Each combined majors program option has different degree requirements, which you can find below. For the specific program requirements from the other departments, or more information, please review the UBC Calendar.

The Combined major in Economics and Philosophy has three sets of requirements: Economics, Philosophy, and Combined.  For information on the Philosophy and Combined requirements, please see the UBC Calendar.

The Economics requirements are that, in addition to admission requirements for the Major in Economics, students must complete:

  • ECON 301 (or 304).
  • ECON 302 (or 305).

  • 6 ECON credits at the 300-level or higher.
  • ECON 490.

If you are exempt from specific required courses (see substitutable courses) because you have received credit for a non-ECON approved substitute, you may have to take additional ECON credits so that they satisfy the Combined Major requirement of 30 ECON credits.

The combined major in economics has two sets of requirements: Economics, and Political Science.  For information on the Political Science requirements, please see the UBC Calendar.
